There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
