There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
