There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
