There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
