There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
