There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that highlights many comforts on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
